Continuing our campaign of using real people, our first Discovery spot features Hollywood location scout, Patrick Ranahan. He’d worked on the Bond movies and “The Right Stuff”, as well as a number of commercials, including Sony “Balls”. A very enjoyable shoot in Pacific Palisades, and Lone Pine, California (where they used to make The Lone Ranger and all the John Wayne cowboy films).

The next spot was everyone’s dream shoot: a 1930’s air race between vintage planes with period costumes and hundreds of extras. It’s just a shame the location food was terrible. Yes, the plane really did fly that close to the cinematographer’s head, although Stuart Douglas directed from a very safe distance. Apparently the BBC used the camera rig we designed to shoot the new series of The Blue Planet.
